The CARE educational strategy behind CSU-ALS training. Evidence-based, team-based preparation for arrest after cardiac surgery.

About
About ECSR
Essentials of Cardiac Surgical Resuscitation™ (ECSR) is the educational strategy of Cardiac Advanced Resuscitation Education (CARE), dedicated to advancing excellence in cardiac surgical arrest management through accredited, evidence-based training.
ECSR is the framework behind every CSU-ALS (Cardiac Surgical Unit–Advanced Life Support) course CARE delivers — protocolized, simulation-based resuscitation training designed to improve readiness, coordination, and outcomes in high-acuity settings.
Our faculty. ECSR is taught by practicing cardiothoracic surgical clinicians — physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and surgeons — with decades of bedside experience in cardiac surgical critical care. CARE's founder, David E. Lizotte Jr., MPAS, PA-C, FAPACVS, has practiced cardiothoracic and vascular surgery for more than 30 years, serves as Executive Director of the Association of Physician Associates in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (APACVS), and is an author of the 2017 STS Expert Consensus on resuscitation after cardiac surgery.
Our approach. ECSR's mission extends beyond protocol delivery. We build a sustainable culture of team-based resuscitation practice, so every member of the cardiac surgical team can act with confidence and precision when it counts.
About CARE. Cardiac Advanced Resuscitation Education provides simulation-based education for post-cardiac-surgery, cardiac catheterization, and critical care teams, with affiliated training centers across the United States and in more than twenty countries. Learn more at www.csu-als.org.
